Most people wouldn’t be so relaxed if a bear showed up on their land, but one man decided to do the opposite. He and the bear became buddies as a result of this approach.
Not too frightening
Black bears are reported to be quite common and at ease with humans in this section of America.
Bears are thriving in Asheville, North Carolina, and it appears that they have come to live among the people. Beginning in the late summer of 2017, a bear family began visiting Patrick Conley on a regular basis, almost becoming like family themselves.
In this video, we witness Patrick’s bear, Simone, emerge from the woods to greet us. This was nothing new for Patrick, but what she brought with her was a tremendous surprise. Her first litter of cubs trailed behind her!
She was surprised to see her relatives.
Patrick couldn’t believe his eyes when he spotted the cubs and even stated in the video description that they were the prettiest creatures he’d ever seen in these woods, but he’s prejudiced. Patrick considers Simone to be a close friend, so seeing the cubs is like meeting a new family member.
Mother bear is fearless.
Simone is so relaxed that she walks directly onto the porch, followed by the cubs.
Simone steps onto Patrick’s porch, indicating that she is completely at ease with him and considers him to be a friend. Because they’ve never been here before, the cubs are a little more cautious, but they trust their mama.
Patrick is completely taken aback when all three bears appear on the doorstep and greet him. It’s remarkable to witness an animal that generally doesn’t associate with humans be so friendly. After a while, the three bears leave the porch and proceed across the street to climb a tree.
Tiny adventurers
The cubs are acclimating to their surroundings and having a nice time exploring.
Both cubs hurry to the nearest tree to climb and play, but the mama bear follows close behind. Simone informs her new cubs it’s time to go home after a period of roaming, climbing, and playing. The three return to the jungle to return home.
Patrick notices Simone is well-fed, and given how close they all got to him, he expects them to return soon, which he welcomes.

Fortunately for us, we can see Patrick’s trip with the bears from the start, and it’s an incredible experience to watch. Maté, the mother bear, now grandma, has three bears: her heavy son Maurice, the shy Solange, and Simone, who we see in the film.
Patrick must now come up with two additional names for the family’s newest members. What a lovely interaction with nature that was captured on film.
